WILDLAND Eco-Commitment

Focused on simplifying and streamlining a mindful lifestyle experience, we’ve approached our product development with an emphasis on sustainability. Wildcrafted, responsibly sourced, all-natural and organic ingredients provide a luxurious self care experience that promotes long lasting health, vitality, and radiance.

Ways we proudly commit to sustainable packaging and practices
  1. Active members of 1% For The Planet - donating 1% of sales (not profits) to the preservation of American wildlands.

  2. Our commitment to ZERO-WASTE offerings & LOCAL REFILL PROGRAMS

    1. Our Super Bar is offered as a Zero Waste option - packaged in repurposed (and recyclable) kraft paper and/or a reusable travel tin. Also sold completely naked in our WILDLAND retail shop located in Idyllwild, CA

    2. Our Ceramic, Concrete, and Travel Tin candles are all housed in 100% reusable containers. When the candle has burned down to the bottom, simply scoop out the last bit of wax and the wick while it is still warm & squishy (not hot & melted). Clean out with a wet dish rag, then leave out to dry. Voilá! You have a reusable vessel you can now use however you’d like - such as a coffee mug (ceramic vessel), planter (concrete), or catch-all stash box (travel tins).

    3. Our REFILL PROGRAM is available in-store, in Idyllwild, CA. Refills of all our products are available at a discounted rate - including our Daily Ritual Oils, Dry Shampoos, Matcha Rinse, and Hand Sanitizers.

  3. LOCALLY SOURCED & SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENTS: We have a deep commitment to using only responsibly sourced, sustainable ingredients. Some examples include (but are not limited to):

    1. Our Mountain Balm features a locally Wildcrafted Olive Oil Infusion of Pine Needles - specifically chosen because of its abundance in our area - thereby making it a supremely sustainable ingredient.

    2. Organic, Fair Trade Avocado Oil is used in our best-selling Daily Ritual Oils, along with 95% organic ingredients and all-natural Vitamin E.

    3. Wildcrafted, Organic Blue Green Algae is used in our Matcha Clarifying Rinse, along with Fair Trade Baobab Powder and Organic Matcha Green Tea.

  4. ECO-FRIENDLY PACKAGING: We use RECYCLED GLASS,  RECYCLED PAPER, & ZERO WASTE packaging vessels wherever possible for the majority of our offerings. Exceptions to this rule are only made when non-plastic packaging for any particular formula are not available, or, not functional for the end purpose of the product. An example of this is our Dry Shampoo - which is housed in recyclable plastic containers. Glass containers for this type of vessel are not currently available, and are furthermore considered not-functional by our customers, since they use this product for adventure travel such as backpacking where glass is unfortunately not a functional option.

  5. ORGANIC/SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENT STANDARDS: All Wildland offerings are held up to the organic standard of NSF-ANSI, a private label organic standard, focused on the ingredients and processes for personal care products.  Our goal is to be certified within the next 2 years. As a young company, the costs associated with certification can be an obstacle early on - but we have committed to holding our products up to the NSF-ANSI standard from the beginning.

  6. SUSTAINABLE SHIPPING PRACTICES: We go to great lengths to use the most sustainable shipping materials we can find. Eco-Enclose has been a wonderful resource, along with finding creative ways to reuse and repurpose shipping supplies we receive from our suppliers. In a perfect world, these eco-friendly supplies would work for every shipping scenario - but unfortunately the reality is we sometimes need to use alternatives in order to fit the size and shape of what is being shipped - and quite frankly what the USPS provides (flat-rate bubble envelopes for instance). Transparency is important to us, and we always want to give consumers the full story. That being said, for the vast majority of shipping scenarios we are proud to use:

  1. 100% Recycled Paper Padded Mailers: Best overall source material (recycled, renewable, regenerative) and end of life prospects, highest carbon footprint. Recovered newspaper is matted into a layer of cushioning -- a pillow of paper of sorts -- and then sandwiched between two solid layers of recycled kraft paper.

  2. 100% Recycled Poly Mailers:  Non-renewable but recycled source material, second-best end of life prospects, lowest CO2 footprint. (It should be noted, these are considered “more eco friendly” than 100% compostable mailers, because of their virgin and polluting source material, and higher CO2 footprint than 100% recycled poly). Here’s more info about that if you’re curious: https://www.ecoenclose.com/compostable-versus-recyclable-mailers-

  3. Biodegradable Cello Carton Sealing Tape that is 100% plant-derived, renewable, and naturally biodegradable, as an alternative to traditional petroleum derived/non-biodegradable packing tape.

  4. Kraft Flatback Carton Sealing Tape - features a renewable, recyclable plant-derived adhesive & backing.

  5. Zero Waste White Shipping Labels  - constructed from 100% post-consumer content paper and feature a release liner that is 100% recycled AND curbside recyclable! They also utilize Recycle Compatible Adhesive. These truly are the world's most earth conscious labels.

  6. 100% Recycled Kraft Shipping Labels - Constructed from 100% post-consumer content paper

  7. 100% Recycled Tuck Boxes - these are biodegradable as well!

  8. Biodegradable GreenWrap as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional bubble wrap.

  9. Repurposed Materials: If you ever see bubble wrap or other non-recyclable materials in a package shipped from WILDLAND  (currently used only for reusable ceramic and concrete candle shipping at present) - rest assured it has been saved from a landfill and re-used - and we encourage you as the recipient to do the same. If we all find creative ways to reuse non-recyclable packaging - we can collectively reduce demand for new production of those products, and make the most of their usability until their end-of-life. This reduces the overall CO2 footprint of the product, and is a positive way we can make use of non-recyclable materials that have already been produced.

  10. Pre-loved, Vintage, & Eco Apparel in our brick and mortar shop located in IDYLLWILD, CA. We are very passionate about reducing waste in the apparel industry both as consumers, and as retailers. For that reason we curated a corner of one-of-a-kind vintage, hip pre-loved, and small batch, consciously created apparel in our WILDLAND shop located in Idyllwild, CA. We plan to add these offerings to our website soon - so be sure to check back!

Thank you for your interest in our sustainability practices - it is people like YOU that are truly making a difference in the health of our environment by thoroughly researching the products and companies you choose to support. We appreciate your commitment to eco-friendly practices, and look forward to you experiencing the Wildland difference.

Wishing love & light to all beings and the beautiful planet we inhabit,

Marisa & Daane
